The 37-year old Pole won the class by over four minutes in Austria, taking his Rallytechnology-run Peugeot 208 R2 to an incredible 11th overall on the opening round. Bergkvist responded with victory in Latvia, the 20-year old Swede also taking sixth overall in his ADAC Opel Rallye Junior Team Adam R2.
Ogryzek (pictured) and Bergkvist have 39 points, while Romanian driver Simone Tempestini (Napoca Rally Academy Citroën DS3 R3T) is third with 30 points.
Rally Liepāja wasn’t such a good event for Ogryzek, however, after he lost a lot of time on day one.
“Rally Liepāja was difficult for all crews,” said Ogryzek. “Before the start, our goal was a rank among the first ten two-wheel-drive cars. During the rally, I made some basic mistakes including several mistakes at the intersections, two flat tyres, or flipping over from the rally route on SS9, which resulted in more than 14 minutes of delay.
“Our colleagues from Scandinavia who drove the two-wheel-drive cars deserve much respect. They proved they are outstanding on the gravel and snow surface and that they can also defeat much stronger four-wheel-drive cars.
“We reached the finish and that is essential. We kept a high position in the ERC3 classification. We gained valuable experience, which should be useful during the other rounds of the European Rally Championship.”
