FIA European Junior Rally Championship driver Łukasz Pieniążek achieved a personal ambition last weekend – to contest the rally that first got him hooked on the sport as a spectator.

It was whilst watching the Świdnicki Rally that Pieniążek decided he wanted to be a rally driver, and following his dream, the 24-year old from Częstochowa is already competing at ERC level. But making his Polish Rally Championship debut on the Świdnicki Rally still remained a dream – until last weekend, when he and co-driver Jakub Gerber took a class podium finish on the event in their LP Rally Team Peugeot 208 R2.
“I always wanted to start the Świdnicki Rally – it was my first rally I have seen and thanks to this I became a rally driver,” said Pieniążek. “I am very happy with getting the car to the finish line in my debut in the Polish Rally Championship. Our position was really good – third place in the class, fifth in the front-wheel category and 10th in overall. If someone gave such positions to me before the rally, I would have taken it.”
Pieniążek’s next ERC Junior outing will be SATA Rallye Açores (4-6 June), and you can keep up with his preparations via his great Facebook page here.
He has also made a great video to celebrate his ERC Junior programme, which can be viewed here.
