The event was cancelled after unseasonal warm weather had made a number of stages unsafe and will now be moved to a later date in the year.
“Safety is always the number one concern and with safety very much in mind the organisers were left with no alternative other than to postpone Rally Liepāja until later in the year,” ERC co-ordinator Jean-Baptiste Ley told the ERC website.
The cancellation means that Rally Islas Canarias will now become the first race on this year’s ERC calendar.
“To all the rally participants, spectators, supporters and friends, I want to say that we had to make this decision in a very short timeframe, as even last week Latvia was still covered in snow,” added Rally Liepaja organiser, Raimonds Strokšs.
"We had already done all the preparation and were ready to accommodate all the European Championship crews and spectators, but unfortunately we cannot control the weather."
Any pre-purchased Rally Liepaja passes can be returned. Details of which can be found here.
