GMT94 Yamaha has picked up the first 10 points to be awarded at the Bol d’Or, the opening round of the 2017-2018 FIM EWC. The official French Yamaha team was leading the standings 8 hours into the race, ahead of F.C.C. TSR Honda France and Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.
In the battle for the lead right from the start of the Bol d’Or, GMT94 Yamaha scooped the 10 bonus points awarded to the standings leader 8 hours into the race. AT 11pm, GMT94 Yamaha was in top spot ahead of F.C.C. TSR Honda France, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, Honda Endurance Racing and IV Racing BMW CSEU.
GMT94 Yamaha waged a long-drawn-out battle with Suzuki Endurance Racing Team at the front end of the race. After being held up by a brake problem and then by a chain issue, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team lost ground to F.C.C. TSR Honda France, who had also taken the lead in the early stages of the race.
Honda Endurance Racing has stayed put in the Top 5 since the start of the race. Having positioned itself right behind the factory-backed machines early on, as of 11pm IV Racing BMW CSEU was lapping ahead of three other BMW squads: Tecmas, Wepol Motorrad by Penz13 and Völpker NRT48 Schubert Motors by ERC.
In ninth place at 11pm, the first Superstock, Tati Team Beaujolais Racing, picked up two bonus points ahead of Team April Moto Motors Events.
Team SRC Kawasaki is missing from the roll call. After leading the race for the first 16 laps with Randy de Puniet posting the fastest lap (a 1’58.386), SRC Kawasaki had to withdraw with a broken engine after barely an hour.
Likewise, YART Yamaha, who also got off to a good start, had to throw in the towel after Kohta Nozane crashed out.
Outside the bonus points zone at 11pm, two other Superstock teams were in 11th and 12th place respectively: Team 33 Accessoires Louit Moto and 3Art Yam Avenue Moto Team 85. Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences took the lead at the start of the race, but has dropped back to the bottom of the standings following a crash.
