Test results claim footballer was 'beaten to death' in changing room

Initial reports in Algeria suggested that Ebosse, a JS Kabylie striker, died in hospital on August 23 after being hit by a projectile.

However, recent findings from a new pathology report – at the request of Ebosse’s family – claim that the 24-year-old’s death was the result of “brutal aggression” which could have taken place in the locker room following a league match in which JS Kabylie lost.

Pathologist Andre Moune’s report claimed that the striker had suffered upper body injuries that indicated “signs of a struggle.”

The official report from Algerian authorities following an investigation into Ebosse’s death suggested that the player had died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries as he left the pitch under attack by missiles from the stands.

It was initially claimed that Ebosse may have been struck by a piece of sharp slate – according to Algerian sports minister Mohamed Tahmi – but the results of the post-mortem examination state that this could not have been the case.

The pathologist’s report noted that, during the aforementioned struggle, Ebosse received “a blow to the head” that caused “an indentation of the skull”, which was likely the cause of death.

Moune also revealed that the 24-year-old received a “rupture of cervical vertebrae” and a wound to his shoulder.

The results of the tests have been passed on to Algerian and Cameroonian authorities, whome Ebosse’s family have urged to take action.
