Bayern Munich head coach Carlo Ancelotti hailed his team's "perfect" performance following a crushing defeat of Hamburg in the Italian's landmark managerial match.
The 8-0 demolition was Ancelotti's 1000th competitive match in club management and it could not have been more impressive as Ba yern maintained their five-point advantage at the top of the Bundesliga table ahead of RB Leipzig.
Arturo Vidal opened the scoring before Robert Lewandowski netted two, the first from the penalty spot, to give Bayern a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.
The Poland striker completed his hat-trick shortly after the restart before David Alaba, a Kingsley Coman brace and Arjen Robben all struck to send a devastating message to the rest of the league.
Ancelotti said in the post-match press conference: "It was a perfect day, a perfect match. We played well with a good attitude. I told my players before the game to make my anniversary a good game.
"I did not expect it to work so well, we did it very well. I am very happy and wish for the next game the same setting and the same spirit."
Despite five of his players getting on the scoresheet, including hat-trick hero Lewandowski, whose 19th league goal of the season put him level at the top of the scoring charts with Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the 57-year-old singled out Thomas Muller for special praise after his two assists .
Ancelotti said: "Thomas Muller was the key man for us today. Muller was the best player on the pitch. He moved really well. It's true that he didn't score, but he was involved in many offensive situations.
"I really liked his performance as I did all the players, but Muller stood out offensively."
Hamburg went into the match on the back of three-game unbeaten run that had seen them move away from the foot of the table, but their fears of being relegated for the first time in the club's history came back after a terrible defensive showing at the Allianz Arena.
Head coach Markus Gisdol said: "That hurts today, it was especially painful. Today we have a very clear result against us to handle and to process.
"We have never managed to be a suitable opponent today. Bayern were very good today and we were not good."
