Brewers sweating in Maynard

Maynard was carried off on a stretcher late on in the pre-season friendly defeat to Derby at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday.

The 28-year-old defender was involved in a tangle for the ball with Rams midfielder Jamie Hanson and when both players fell to the floor Maynard immediately signalled that he was in some discomfort.

More should be known later this week regarding the severity of the problem and how long he will be out of action but Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is not optimistic.

"Kelvin Maynard is not good, it's not good," said the Albion boss after the game.

"It doesn't look, on first initial looks, very good at all.

"Hopefully, fingers crossed, that I'm wrong but initially it doesn't look great for Kelvin."
