Ailton returns to Germany

The 33-year-old former Werder Bremen and Schalke 04 striker has joined the club after a spell at Red Star Belgrade.

"We've caught a whopper," Duisburg president Walter Hellmich said. "I am delighted that Ailton will once again grace the Bundesliga - and here in Duisburg.

"[coach Rudi Bommer] is fully behing the signing. Such a thing would only be allowed in accordance with the coach's wishes anyway."

Ailton was topscorer in the Bundesliga in the 2003/4 season for Werder and won a move to Schalke in . However, after just one seasons he fell out of favour and spent time at Besitkas, Hamburg and Grasshoppers Zurich.

The contract has the option for a year's extension.
