According to reports in Germany, Marco Reus is close to announcing a contract extension at Borussia Dortmund.
The much-coveted midfielder has been the subject of intense media speculation in recent months, with reports suggesting that the German will leave Dortmund at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester United, amongst others, particularly with Juergen Klopp’s side languishing at the foot of the table.
It is highly unlikely that the Rhine club will qualify for the Champions League – with 14 points currently separating Dortmund and fourth-placed Augsburg and only 14 games left to play this season – adding to the speculation that he will leave in the summer.
However, according to German radio station Dortmund 91.2, Reus is close to agreeing a contract extension which would see him stay at the club until 2018.
The midfielder’s current deal is due to expire in 2017, but reports suggest that ‘talks have gone well’ and that a ‘decision is likely to be made by the end of February’.
