Franz Beckenbauer: Mario Goetze must ‘grow up’ to succeed at Bayern Munich

Franz Beckenbauer has lashed out at Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Goetze, urging the World Cup star to “grow up” if he plans on prospering at the club.
The Germany legend, now honorary president at Bayern, criticised the 22-year-old’s attitude in the wake of the Bundesliga giants’ 3-0 defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday evening.
Goetze only arrived off the bench in the 79th minute at Camp Nou, with Beckenbauer voicing his concerns at the youngster’s development.
"He behaves and moves around on the pitch like a youth player. He just stops moving when he loses a duel. This is the behaviour of a child," Beckenbauer told Sky.
"This kind of behaviour does not fit in at Bayern. It is time for him to grow up.
"He has shown at Dortmund what he can do and we know that he is a great talent. But there is still something missing."
Goetze secured a place in German sporting history with an extra time winner in the World Cup final against Argentina last summer, but has since struggled to nail down a regular starting spot under Pep Guardiola at Bayern.
