Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has accused Southampton of "changing the goalposts" after their move for Grzegorz Rasiak collapsed.
The Owls had had a bid for the Poland international accepted but are now claiming the Saints have suddenly introduced increased demands which they are not prepared to meet.
"We are very disappointed," said Laws after he broke off the agreement. "Negotiations have been going on for a while, we have been going through the motions and the deal has been on and off.
"I have seen the contents of the letter from Southampton and they accepted a substantial offer but they have now changed their demands.
"It has been very frustrating because they have changed the goalposts."
Laws also said that the club was refusing to let the week which also saw former Holland striker Patick Kluivert bother them too much claiming they still have plenty of options.
"We are looking at other options, we are looking globally," he continued. "There's not a player we haven't looked at.
"But we have to make sure the player is right for Sheffield Wednesday and we will not pay over the odds."
