Saints sign Vignal

The former Rangers, Liverpool and Portsmouth left-back signed the year-long deal at St Mary's after impressing boss George Burley while on trial.

The 26-year-old defender, who can also play in midfield, goes straight into the squad for Saturday's home friendly against Italian giants Lazio.

"I am delighted to have signed and to be back in English football - and I am very happy to be here," Vignal told the club's official website.

"Southampton is a good club with a lot of quality and George Burley wanted me which is very important to me. I have signed a year loan with an option so if we go up then maybe I can stay longer."
