The 19-year-old had hoped to break into Arsene Wenger’s first team plans after a successful pre-season, but the club have decided a year’s experience in the Championship will aid his development.
Akpom scored a hat-trick against a Singapore Select XI in the Barclays Asia Trophy in July and made seven senior appearances last season.
However, he faced stiff competition in the lone striker's berth from Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck.
OUR VIEW
This isn't the season for Akpom to contest a starting spot in the Premier League.
He's impressed with Arsenal over the summer and can now get regular action as Hull target an immediate return to the top-flight. Good move for everyone.
