Leeds were poised to go third in the table after Pontus Jansson’s second-half opener, but Liam Cooper handled inside the penalty area late on, allowing Villa to level from 12 yards.
Hadi Sacko struck the crossbar for the visitors in a frantic finale, which also saw Rob Green deny Kodjia down the other end.
Leeds climb one spot into fourth, while Villa are five points adrift of the play-off spots.
The draw ended a run of three straight wins for Garry Monk's side - and a sequence of five successive home victories for Steve Bruce's team.
