The Rams head coach watched his players conclude their preparations at the weekend with a 3-1 friendly victory over League One neighbours Burton.
Clement gets his managerial career up and running on Saturday against Bolton at the Macron Stadium and the former Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid coach is looking forward to the prospect.
"As a whole, we have grown in pre-season and we are in a good position going into the first game," Clement told the club's official website.
"I am pleased with how pre-season has worked out and I'm happy with the players and what they have done. We are going to be ready to go against Bolton.
"We have got through pre-season in terms of the workload, the games and shared the minutes around as well.
"We have tried a few systems in the games, which is important, so we know we can switch formation as and when required.
"As I said, I'm happy with the way pre-season has gone on the whole. We have a good squad and some really good footballers. We have lots of options in all positions, and options in different formations as well.
"Now the thoughts turn to Bolton."
Ahead of the trip to the Macron Stadium, Clement added: "We've got five days of training going into the game this weekend and we want five good days, because the work and preparation isn't done by any means.
"There's a lot to work on; physical preparation, tactical work and analysis on the opposition.
"We have got a busy week and I have lot of thinking to do with regards to the team that starts the game, although I have a fair idea."
