GOAL! El Shaarawy scores. 2-1 Italy.
GOAL! Cavani scores. 1-1
GOAL! Aquilani scores. 1-0 Italy.
MISS! Buffon saves Forlan's spot-kick.
Diego Forlan is first up.
And so, we're going to PENALTIES!
FT: Uruguay 2-2 Italy
Late effort from Uruguay to get the win, with Gargano shooting from long-range. Buffon saves well though.
Edinson Cavani takes a rare effort at goal in this extra time. Just a wayward shot, in all honesty. Buffon not troubled.
SECOND BOOKING: Montolivo (Italy)
Speculative from Candreva. He says Muslera got a touch, the referee disagrees.
The second 30 minutes resume.
SUB (Uruguay): Arevalo off, Perez on.
HT (ET): Uruguay 2-2 Italy
Edinson Cavani breaks clear, ready to fire at goal, but excellent defending from Leandro Bonucci.
What a pass from Alvaro Pereira, curling into the left-hand channel for Luis Suarez to run on to, but sound defending from Chiellini to jockey the Liverpool man off the field.
Penalty claim for Uruguay. Godin was challenged by Aquilani from behind, and it looked like the Fiorentina playmaker didn't touch the ball.
It's tame stuff from both sides. Tired legs out there, especially on the Italian side.
Strong sun in Salvador. The seats bathed in sunshine are empty though! Everyone is moving into the shade.
SUB (Italy): Astori off, Bonucci on.
Extra Time begins ...
How do we see this going? Will it come down to more magic from Cavani?
So, this is the second time in four days Italy have played extra-time. How will they cope? A further 30 minutes to decide the third-place.
FT: Uruguay 2-2 Italy
Italy win a free-kick on the far-side of the penalty area. El Shaarawy was upended by Caceres. Candreva's delivery was disappointing. Extra time beckons ...
Three additional minutes have been added in this game. It's still 2-2.
Davide Astori receiving some treatment on the field. Looks like a knock from an earlier incident with Alvao Pereira, or cramp.
Substitute Alberto Aquilani - former Liverpool midfielder, now Fiorentina - tees up a neat shot well-saved by Muslera. Entertaining end to this game.
SUB (Italy): Diamanti off, Giaccherini on.
YELLOW: Ricardo Montolivo (Italy)
SUB (Uruguay): Maxi Pereira off, A.Pereira on
GOAL! It's another free-kick. This time ... Edinson Cavani with a special, special goal from 30 yards. It's 2-2.
GOAL! Alessandro Diamanti with a fantastic free-kick at the edge of the box. Beautifually taken. Curling, rolling and found the corner. 2-1 Italy.
Edinson Cavani (Uruguay)
SUB (Italy): De Rossi off, Aquilani on.
SUPER DOUBLE-SAVE! Buffon denies Diego Forlan not once, but also from the rebound. Great goalkeeping.
YELLOW: Luis Suarez (Uruguay)
GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! Edison Cavani strokes the ball across Buffon from inside the box. Great finish. Gargano on the break, slid in the Napoli forward and he did the rest. 1-1.
SUB (Uruguay): C.Rodriguez off, A.Gonzalez
YELLOW: Giorgio Chiellini (Italy)
Finally! A shot at goal since half-time. It's Arevalo with a half-volley from the edge of the box, straight into Buffon's gloves.
We've just seen the goalline technology camera on our feed. It took over 30 minutes to see who scored. A bit long?
Heavy challenge from behind by Diego Godin. Should've probably resulted in a caution there.
We're underway again for the second period.
UPDATE: FIFA have studied the goal-line technology and given the Italian goal to Davide Astori.
Despite the huge gaps in the bottom-tier of the stadium, this is an impressive venue in Salvador.
The teams slowly coming on to the pitch. It might be a third-fourth place play-off but the fans are certainly enjoying themselves.
HT: Uruguay 0-1 Italy
Two minutes of added time.
A tactical shuffle for Uruguay. It's 3-4-3 for them now.
Italy's turn to have a shot at goal. This time Candreva, again, bursting into the box and curling into Muslera's arms.
No problems for Buffon so far. Uruguay being forced into speculative, long-range efforts. Forlan with another there.
Maxi Pereira comes close from around 15 yards out, after being fed in by Cavani and turning 180 degrees and being denied by Buffon.
GOOD STOP! Muslera palms the ball clear of goal to block the instinctive El Shaaraway who turned inside, controlled and fired a right-foot shot at goal.
OFFSIDE GOAL! Cavani is offside, as he latches on to a free-kick and nods to the right-side of Buffon. Nice header, but still 1-0 Italy.
Ambitious from Diego Forlan who strikes, a long way from goal, perhaps, 40 yards which Buffon is in no danger.
Edison Cavani filling in at left-back with Caceres off the field recieving treatment.
SAVE! Buffon palms over the bar to deny Luis Suarez from a tight angle.
Neat move involving El Shaaraway and Gilardino, but the No.14's touch was awful inside the box and the ball rolls out of play.
Official information crediting the goal to Alessandro Diamanti, which certainly is strange. Either a Muslera O.G or Davide Astori with a touch on the line.
GOAL! It was an Italy free-kick, my mistake. Diamanti's curling free-kick catches Muslera off-guard and the ball clips the crossbar and into the net. Looks like a Muslera O.G.
Martin Caceres clumsy in his defending there. Bundles over former West Ham man Diamanti. Free-kick to Uruguay.
SHOT OVER! Candreva again involved. He has had a positive start to the game. De Rossi finding him in space centrally, but he blazes over.
Remember a number of changes to this Italy side from the Spain semi-final. No Andrea Pirlo in the heart of midfield.
Muslera makes a solid save from Candreva, who was on-rushing to De Sciglio's neat cut-back and he hits the target. Possibly could have scored from 15 yards.
Ripple of noise from the neutral crowd .... for a Mexican wave!
Good save from Buffon. Forlan with a 20 yard free-kick, low, under the wall and well saved by the Italian GK.
Chiellini heads wide! Good free-kick from Diamanti, and the near-post run from the Juve defender caught the Uruguay defence flat-footed.
Still no goals in Salvador, but Luis Suarez creating a good move from the right side. Cavani on the left couldn't find a light blue shirt inside the box.
