England international Lambert, who is yet to score for the Reds, replaced Mario Balotteli in attack with the club confirming a groin injury had sidelined the former Manchester City man.
Adam Lallana and Joe Allen also came into Rodgers' side, with Emre Can dropped to the bench and Jordan Henderson absent through illness.
Palace all-but ended Liverpool's title tilt with a 3-3 draw here last season and the hero of that night, Dwight Gayle, was recalled as one of three changes for Neil Warnock.
He started up front with Fraizer Campbell missing out, whilst ex-Liverpool full-back Martin Kelly came in and skipper Mile Jedinak returned from a ban.
