Danny Simpson urges in-demand team-mates to stay at Leicester

Leicester defender Danny Simpson has urged his in-demand team-mates to stay as the Foxes ponder manager Craig Shakespeare's future.

Last season's champions could lose some of their stars this summer with Riyad Mahrez saying he wants to play in the Champions League.

Mahrez, Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Drinkwater are all expected to attract interest this summer with no European football next season.

But Simpson does not want the side which won a shock Premier League title last year to break up.

He said: "It's a special club, every team is going to have other teams interested in their players but as far as I'm concerned it's a good dressing room, a great squad, and I still think there's a lot more to come.

"It's the same for other clubs, we hope everyone stays and builds on this experience and it'll be nice to go again next season and try to get into Europe again.

"It's Leicester, anything is a possibility. After playing in Europe this season we want that again. We'll have a good break and come back in pre-season and see what squad we've got.

"I'm pretty sure that's something we'll be trying to get again and I'm sure that's what we want and the owners want."

Shakespeare is due to hold talks with the club this week after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Bournemouth saw the Foxes finish 12th.

Shakespeare won eight of his 16 games in charge after replacing Claudio Ranieri until the end of the season in February.

His deal expires next month - although his contract as assistant manager runs beyond that - and Simpson will respect any decision the owners make.

The right-back said: "His record speaks for itself, he has been at the club for seven or eight years so there's not too much to say. It's up to the chairman and once the decision has been made - it's up to him when he makes it - we'll respect it.

"We've done all we can do since Craig took over, perform, stay in the league and finish as high as we can. Considering the position 13 games ago we have looked good and got a lot of points.

"We've performed well and tried and that's all Craig wanted us to do when he took over."
