Last season's top scorer is unlikely to return to action until after the international break, missing out for the Republic of Ireland's games against Georgia and Gibraltar in the process.
Teddy Bishop has shin splints and will also miss the game, while Kevin Bru and Jonathan Parr are nearing comebacks but the Seagulls game comes too soon for the pair.
Luke Chambers, Freddie Sears and Ryan Fraser are likely to return to the starting line-up after starting Tuesday's Capital One Cup tie at Doncaster on the bench.
Brighton have recent signings Bobby Zamora and Connor Goldson available for the match.
Striker Zamora has yet to figure for the Seagulls since rejoining them this summer but could now make his second debut for the club.
Defender Goldson, recruited last week from Shrewsbury, is also ready to make his bow having been ineligible for Tuesday's cup defeat to Walsall - a game Brighton boss Chris Hughton looks certain to make considerable changes from, having named a first XI that night showing 10 alterations.
Andrew Crofts is not expected to be involved at the weekend but the midfielder is thought to be very close to making his return from knee surgery.
