Preston have released veteran striker Kevin Davies.
The 38-year-old, who helped North end to promotion last season, wants to continue playing and is now available on a free transfer.
He wrote on Twitter: "After waiting for 5 weeks just been told no offer. Obviously disappointed, great 2 years. New challenge required, I'm available!!"
Preston say they were unable to offer the former Southampton and Bolton frontman a new deal due to cash issues.
A club statement read: " Preston North End have today confirmed to Kevin Davies that we are not currently able to offer a further contract in either a playing or playing/coaching role.
"Kevin joined us from Bolton Wanderers two years ago and his contribution both on and off the pitch over the last two seasons has been outstanding and his playing and leadership skills played a major part in us regaining our Championship status.
"The current decision not to extend Kevin's contract has been driven solely by budgetary constraints and we sincerely belief that Kevin can continue to contribute on the field if that is a route that he decides to pursue.
"We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Kevin and his family for his contribution to Preston North End Football Club."
