Aldershot capitalised on Boreham Wood's unexpected lack of leadership with a 1-0 Vanarama National League win at Meadow Park.
The hosts were still reeling from the shock of manager Ian Allinson's resignation on Monday, but rallied after a poor start to give Barry Smith's men a stiff test.
The Shots hit the front in the first 10 minutes. A Damon Lathrope free-kick caused havoc in the box, Richard Brodie struck the post, and his forward partner Charlie Walker was handily placed to bundle the ball in.
Boreham Wood made a fight of it in the second half. Ricky Shakes was a threat, forcing a diving save by Phil Smith with the help of his upright. They could not however, recover a point.
