Excelsior extended their winless run in the Eredivisie to 10 games after a 0-0 draw against fellow strugglers Willem II at Stadion Woudestein.
The hosts had the better of the first half with Brandley Kuwas, Rick Kruys and Sander Fischer all wasting half-chances to break the deadlock.
Midfielder Erik Falkenburg had the only attempt of note in the opening 45 minutes for Willem II but in the second half the visitors upped the tempo.
Three minutes after half-time Nigeria international Bartholomew Ogbeche fired high and wide before Robbie Haemhouts tested Excelsior keeper Filip Kurto after good work by Nick van der Velden.
Funso Ojo also went close for Willem II with a couple of free-kicks yet, in the final minute, Excelsior forward Michiel Hemmen could have won it but saw his header well saved by Kostas Lamprou.
Despite avoiding defeat, Excelsior remain without an Eredivisie win since beating 14th-placed Willem II in November.
