The non-league visitors turned the screw after home goalkeeper Ben Garratt was sent off for bringing down the lively Yemi Odubade just over the hour mark.
Odubade was a pest throughout and had a first-half effort cleared off the line by Ben Nugent.
Crewe had started the brighter and Nugent went close with a header from a corner, before Marcus Haber volleyed wide.
Yet Andy Drury sent a warning across the bows when his angled shot flew inches past the far post, with Eastleigh finishing the first half strongly as Odubade twice went close.
The striker was then put in by partner James Constable, but was denied by a smart save by Garratt.
But when Odubade raced clear onto Drury's pass, Garratt's desperate challenge off his line was misjudged and saw the striker upended a yard outside the box.
Josh Payne drove the resulting free kick onto the roof of the net, but the non-league side scented an upset.
And when substitute Ross Lafayette was tripped by Dan Nizic, Strevens sent the substitute keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot in the 75th minute.
National League leaders Forest Green Rovers scored in the third minute of injury time to beat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 and reach the second round of the FA Cup.
Stourbridge dumped 10-man Dover out off the FA Cup at the Crabble with a Karl Hawley penalty securing a 2-1 win for the Northern Premier League outfit.
Northampton Town provided an FA Cup shock as they dumped Coventry City out of the competition with a well-deserved 2-1 victory.
Hot-shot striker Paddy Madden struck twice to help Scunthorpe squeeze into the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 home victory against Southend.
Alex Whittle's goal was not enough to see Fylde into the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history as Millwall won 3-1.
Managerless Cambridge beat National League South strugglers Basingstoke 1-0 in the FA Cup thanks to a first-half goal from Jeff Hughes.
Macauley Bonne scored four goals as Colchester overcame National League South side Wealdstone 6-2 to progress to the second round of the FA Cup.
