David Silva turned on the style as Manchester City dismantled West Ham and dumped them out of the FA Cup.
The teams had been evenly balanced, with both teams fielding a strong side save for their second-choice goalkeepers. The breakthrough came for City when Pablo Zabaleta was tripped by Angelo Obgonna, and Yaya Toure converted. Havard Nordtveit then turned into his own net, quickly followed by David Silva.
In the second half, Aguero needed five minutes to add a fourth - his 154th for the club, taking him above Colin Bell in the City history books for all-time leading scorer - and West Ham's fans accelerated their evacuation of the stadium. With five minutes left, John Stones' header made it five.
City had started with Pablo Zabaleta in midfield, and controlled the game from the moment they took the lead. West Ham could not rouse themselves from the season's slump, and suffered their heaviest ever home FA Cup defeat.

TALKING POINT

Was it a penalty to break the deadlock? Zabaleta ran in to anticipate the challenge from Ogbonna, and Ogbonna presented it. There was some discussion about whether or not tripping a player is a penalty, but it is hard to understand why it isn't in the eyes of some. If defenders want to avoid conceding penalties, they should not trip opposing players.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City): All of City's front three tormented the West Ham defence in the first half, but Sterling appeared to be the most threatening throughout. His play from the left gave David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne room to manoeuvre, and he was at the heart of several chances too.
