The Glovers led after 28 minutes with a goal from Joel Grant and thought it might be their day in first-half stoppage time when substitute goalkeeper Gareth Stewart saved a penalty from Paddy Madden, against his old club.
However, substitute Hakeeb Adelakun salvaged a point for the hosts with a 61st-minute equaliser.
"After a poor performance last week against Doncaster, this was much more resilient," said Skiverton, whose team remain bottom of the table.
"I was pleased with the way we played, the only disappointment is that we did not win the game.
"We had one or two good chances where we might have nicked it.
"Then when you come in and look how other results of gone, you know that this was a game we needed to win.
"We now need a couple of wins to close the gap where we are at the bottom."
Skiverton was also left with concerns about a mounting injury list, with first choice keeper Artur Krysiak taken to hospital with a head injury.
"He is having a scan, but we will have to wait and see the outcome," said Skiverton.
"We are getting some bad injuries and it is hurting us at the moment.
"But on the plus side we have just got Joel Grant back from injury and he has returned with a goal.
"We set out to frustrate Scunthorpe but we got forward well on the counter and felt comfortable as the game wore on.
"But we just could not manage to get the goal we needed for all three points."
Scunthorpe manager Mark Robins could not fault his team.
"They are giving 100 per cent and you cannot ask more from them than that," he insisted.
"Of course you want more from them - and we will get it in time.
"I thought we controlled the game but we just lacked that bit of guile in the final third to break Yeovil down.
"It was a game we could easily have won but we were not quite good enough in that final third.
"Paddy Madden had the chance for us from the penalty spot. It didn't go in for him today but Paddy has done well for us and you wouldn't bet against him getting another eight or 10 goals for us this season.
"The biggest frustration is that we have shot ourselves in the foot once again by gifting a goal away.
"But we are in the middle of a really hectic programme at the moment and rest and recovery is what we now have to concentrate on."
