Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane score as England beat Turkey

Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy both got on the scoresheet as England's first warm-up game ahead of Euro 2016 ended in a 2-1 win against Turkey at Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League's two most potent English forwards laid down a marker to start as an attacking pair in France as they gave some positive glimpses of their growing chemistry.

The Three Lions got off to a flyer as Kane, who looked to be offside, applied a clinical finish to a delicious pass from Spurs team-mate Dele Alli on three minutes. The assist ensured the 20-year-old midfielder once again illustrated just what he could offer in this summer's tournament as he put in a stylish and incisive showing.

Kane took charge of England's set-pieces but his evening soured when he fired a penalty, won by Vardy, wide with 18 minutes left. His blushes were spared by the Leicester hitman who made it three in his last three internationals with a close range follow-up soon after.

Roy Hodgson was missing most of his Liverpool and Manchester United contingent due to their commitments in club cup competitions, but was buoyed by the return of Jack Wilshere who impressed with a 66-minute cameo after 11 months away from the international scene through injury.

Jordan Henderson also looked fully recovered when he replaced Wilshere to give the England manager some positives to take from a game where his team failed to produce their best.

Attention will now turn to the clash with Australia at Sunderland's Stadium of Light on May 27 as Hodgson ponders which three players to omit from his 26-man squad before the final warm-up clash with Portugal at Wembley on June 2.

The strikers started as part of a front three that included the disappointing Raheem Sterling, with the Leicester man forced to play the first half in a wide left position. Some poor delivery came under scrutiny and nullified his main threat of pace through the middle. In the second half Hodgson switched to a front two and Vardy began to shine. He won the penalty and stretched the Turkey defence before showing his prowess with a poacher's finish.

The link-up with Kane is burgeoning and despite the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney hoping to stake their own claim, this looks like it could be a real partnership. It also means there will be more questions about Rooney's role. The captain is no longer featuring as a forward for Manchester United and many would love to see Alli play in behind Kane and Vardy. The next few weeks will be very interesting and while this wasn't a vintage performance, there are signs it could be quite exciting in France if Hodgson gets his selection right.

3' - GOAL! ENGLAND 1-0 TURKEY. Kane gets England off to a flyer. Sterling spins into play and feeds Alli on the edge of the box. The Spurs midfielder quickly sees his club-mate, Kane and dinks a neat pass into the forward who coolly slots into the corner. More than a touch of offside about it, but the officials give the goal.

5' - TURKEY CHANCE! Turkey almost level immediately. England are cut to pieces down the right and when the ball is laid back for Ozan Tufan the midfielder is only denied by a brilliant block by Walker inside his own six-yard box.

13' - GOAL! ENGLAND 1-1 TURKEY. Turkey are level. It's the first time they have ever scored against England in their 11th meeting. Hakan Calhanoglu tucks into a empty net after Tosun had beaten the onrushing Hart to Oguzhan Ozyakup's clever pass to square it into the middle.

54' - TURKEY CHANCE! Tosun kills a fizzed pass into his feet on the edge of the box and turns beautifully before sizzling a low drive inches wide of the far post.

72' - ENGLAND PENALTY MISS! Kane steps up but smashes his spot-kick against the left-hand post and wide of target after Vardy's pace had seen him bundled over in the area by Topal.

83' - GOAL! ENGLAND 2-1 TURKEY. England regain the lead. Vardy nets from close range and a tight angle after Cahill's header from a right-wing corner was fumbled by the keeper.

90+2' - ENGLAND CHANCE! Kane almost caps the victory with a clever turn and shot after Vardy had chased a long ball and laid it off for his strike partner.

90+3' TURKEY CHANCE! England all over the place at the back as Sahan's volley at the far post is brilliantly palmed away by the keeper.

Hakan Calhanoglu scored Turkey's first ever goal v England (11 games, 33 conceded).

Harry Kane is the first England player to fail with a penalty (excl. shootouts) since Frank Lampard missed against Japan in May 2010

England have lost just one of their last 11 international games on home soil (W10).
