Former West Germany international Hans-Peter Briegel has made a confession about the controversial 1982 World Cup game with Austria.
The former international defender has spoken to an Arabian newspaper about the topic which could reopen some old wounds with Algeria.
The African side were dumped out of the world's premier competition in Spain when West Germany defeated Austria 1-0, a result that sent both teams through.
The result led to FIFA deciding to play all the final group games in major tournaments at the same time in a bid to avoid any carve-ups.
"We made the decision between all of us with them to not make too much of an effort in the game against Austria," Briegel, now coach of Bahrain, is quoted as saying.
