Hanover defender Steven Cherundolo has told German television that Juergen Klinsmann is to take over as US national side coach.
An official announcement is not expected until December, but when asked whether the former German boss will fill the void left by Bruce Arena, American Cherundolo - who also plays for the US - confirmed the rumour to the TV channel Premiere, saying: "according to my information."
Klinsmann took Germany to the semi-finals at this year's World Cup in his homeland, and is highly regarded in the States after turning round the fortunes of what was a struggling Nationalmeinshaft to take third place in Germany.
The US's next game is against Denmark on 20 January, but despite Cherundolo's slip, Klinsmann's involvement, if any, remains unsure.
