Monaco's 18-year-old sensation made his first start for his country as they lost 2-0 in Paris, the latest step in a remarkable rise for the product of France's Clairefontaine academy.
"I knew during the day that I would be starting," he told L'Equipe afterwards.
"It is a great pride to start for your country, I am very happy. I am not the type to worry about things. I tried to give my best and show what I can do.
"I felt good but you have to remember the result - we wanted to win the match, even though it was a friendly, and we did not succeed.
"We come away disappointed but we have nothing to be embarrassed about, we did some good things."
David Silva's penalty was added to by a notable strike from AC Milan's on-loan Everton winger Gerard Deulofeu - awarded by the video assistant referee (VAR) being trialled at the game.
The same system had earlier disallowed a France goal when Antoine Griezmann's header was disallowed for offside, but Mbappe echoed his coach Didier Deschamps' support for the system, albeit with one caveat.
"It's a good thing," he said. "It was against us here, but it avoids inequalities.
"The only problem is the timing, we waited two minutes and you cool down. That could be improved.
"If the decision had come after 15, 20 seconds, you would be disappointed but you move on to other things, but after two minutes...
"But I am still in favour of video."
