Moyes has taken advantage of the Spanish Christmas break to attend Premier League games, and Spanish sports daily AS claims he has identified three players to strengthen the Basques’ squad.
The Scot is thought to have enquired about Can’s availability on loan after watching the midfielder play the second half of Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Burnley. Stoke playmaker Adam is considered the most likely alternative if Brendan Rodgers rebuffs the Can approach.
Moyes knows all about Januzaj, whom he introduced to the Manchester United first team last season to great effect. The Belgian has struggled for game time under Louis van Gaal and could be available on loan.
OUR VIEW
Adnan Januzaj - this appears the most likely to move, having already thrived under Moyes’s management. United are eager to keep the 19-year-old, but first-team opportunities have proved scarce this season and a loan could suit all parties.
Emre Can – while the German has not exactly been central to Brendan Rodgers’ plans, he has played a role, and the manager has made encouraging noises about the second half of the season. While Liverpool are out of the Champions League, they still have a Europa League campaign to mount and will most likely need Can to stay.
Charlie Adam – it seems like a classic ‘he’s got no pace, so he’ll be fine abroad’ transfer rumour. Not only is that theory flawed in itself, but Adam’s reckless tackling will see him pick up a booking roughly once every 35 seconds in La Liga. We don’t know if this one is a goer – but if it is, we confidently predict that it won’t end well.
