Ivan Rakitic's Barcelona future plunged into doubt by agent's tweet after Andre Gomes deal

Barcelona’s €50 million capture of Andre Gomes from under the noses of Real Madrid has apparently plunged Ivan Rakitic’s future into doubt.

Barca announced the shock capture of the 22-year-old Portugal midfielder late on Thursday night and the deal appears to have caught a number of people by surprise.

The agent of Croatia star Rakitic, who is a direct competitor for Gomes in the Barca midfield, tweeted something possibly significant on Friday morning.

That translates as “it’s time to leave”.

The tweet came without context but Catalan daily Sport were in no doubt about what Miguel Sors, one of Rakitic’s agents, was alluding to.

The paper cites the long list of midfielders that Barcelona now possess: Rakitic, Gomes, Sergio Busquets, Arda Turan, Rafinha, Denis Suarez, Sergi Samper and Sergi Roberto.

Rakitic is currently in talks over a new contract though, so it could be a hardball negotiation stance.

Or maybe his agent was talking about something else entirely – if so, the timing was unfortunate at best.
