Atletico Madrid are targeting Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez as they aim to bolster their squad, according to a report.

The Independent claims Diego Simeone is keen to revitalise his attacking options and is a big fan of Vardy – who played and scored against Atleti in the Champions League quarter final – and could potentially replace Fernando Torres or Kevin Gameiro.
In April, Atleti captain Diego Godin stated the England international would be good enough to play for Simeone’s first team.
Chilean forward Sanchez, who is reportedly unhappy at the Gunners and seeking a move away, is also linked with a move to Los Rojiblancos having previously enjoyed a three-year stint with Barcelona.

The report continues that Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani and Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata are also targets, although both these deals also appear unlikely.

Although the history of English players in foreign climes is, on the whole, terrible, this story could well be close to the mark. Vardy turned down a move to Arsenal after Leicester's title triumph and, with the Foxes having no chance of repeating that success, the striker could be tempted to cash in for the final years of his career. He would fit Diego Simeone's tactical style, and give them more of an edge on the break than the fading Torres.

As for Sanchez – another player that would fit El Cholo's mould with his incredible workrate and ability to carve a goal out of nothing – he is unlikely to hang about in London if Arsenal fail to reach the top four, and a return to Spain would be the most likely option. A link up with Antoine Griezmann would make Atelti incredibly dangerous and could put them in the running for the Liga and Champions League titles again next year.
As ever with these stories though, it is all subject to change. Simeone could yet be tempted away from Madrid, while Sanchez and Vardy will also have other suitors this summer. Much could also hinge on what Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Atleti kingpin Griezmann decide to do.
