It's been a long wait, but for the first time since 2012 Real Madrid are La Liga champions. They were the best team over the course of the campaign and are worthy winners. They made the most of a disappointing year from Barcelona, with Ronaldo getting his team over the line with some exceptional form.
- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid.
REAL MADRID ARE THE 2016/17 LA LIGA CHAMPIONS!
Just two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match. The end of the 2016/17 La Liga season.
OFF THE CROSSBAR! Castro found space inside the Real Madrid penalty area, but Navas made the save to touch the strike on to the crossbar. Inches away from a Malaga goal!
Kroos has been the quiet man of this Real Madrid title success. The German has really come into his own under Zidane. He's the one who dictates the pace and direction of their play.
Well over from Marcelo! Honestly, I swear he shoots more often in the final few minutes of games than any other player. He had a chance there, but blasted it over the crossbar.
KAMENI SAVE! The Malaga goalkeeper has made a number of stops this evening and this time he denies Modric from close range. He always shows up for the big games against the big teams!
Real Madrid have had 19 different scorers in La Liga this season, which is a record equaling tally. Everyone has contributed to this title success. Zidane deserves credit for that.
Marcelo is always one for a late goal when the game is won, but this time he gets his angles wrong and sends his shot well over the target. It was worth a try from the Brazilian.
Malaga are giving it one final go. They need a goal soon if they are to stand any chance of pulling off an almighty comeback. But as things stand, Real Madrid are looking comfortable.
Of course, while Zidane has been quite keen to rest some of his most important players in the second half, there is a gap between now and the Champions League final in two weeks.
The life has been sucked from this game as the Real Madrid away support chant away, counting down the minutes until they can celebrate being La Liga champions. Coasting.
Malaga have actually had more shots on goal than Real Madrid, but at no point have they looked likely to find the net. They have lacked cutting edge, especially since Sandro went off.
Zidane isn't happy with the way his team have lost their focus in the last few minutes. Malaga have improved and Real Madrid's lead could still be clawed back, even at this stage.
After last season, in which Real Madrid won their 11th European Cup, Zidane was charged with leading them to the Spanish title this year. He is now 10 minutes away from doing that.
So Real Madrid are on the brink of their first league win since the 2011/12 season. They have enjoyed some great success of late in the Champions League, but La Liga has always been difficult for them.
Barcelona have scored twice in quick succession and are now ahead, finally.
Navas needed to get a touch on that. The shot from Mikel was a peculiar one, looping towards goal, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper watched it all the way and tipped it over the bar.
- OffKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
- OnÁlvaro MorataReal Madrid
One more Real Madrid change and it's Morata who comes on for Benzema. We've seen that a few times this season.
The changes have really disrupted this match. There is no flow to it at all, but that will suit Real Madrid just fine. They are coasting to a first Liga championship win since 2012.
- OffJonyMálaga CF
- OnDudaMálaga CF
Duda comes on for the final 17 minutes of this match. He could be off in the summer as well!
Now Messi has missed a penalty! It's just not Barcelona's day.
BENZEMA GOAL CHALKED OFF! The French striker has the ball in the back of the net, but it's ruled out for offside. That would have been game, set and match for definite.
That is likely to be Sandro's last appearance as a Malaga player as well. He has a buyout clause in his contract and is expected to move on. He has enjoyed a successful season.
- OffSandro RamírezMálaga CF
- OnCharlesMálaga CF
Here's a Malaga change, with Sandro coming off for the home side to be replaced by Charles.
This could be James' last appearance as a Real Madrid player. He is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, with a number of Premier League clubs thought to be interested.
The comeback might be on at Camp Nou...
- OffCasemiroReal Madrid
- OnMateo KovacicReal Madrid
And the second change from Zidane sees Kovacic coming on for Casemiro, who will rest up for the Champions League final.
- OffIscoReal Madrid
- OnJames RodríguezReal Madrid
Here comes a couple of changes from Real Madrid, with Isco coming off to be replaced by James.
It would be quite interesting if Real Madrid were to score a third goal. Would Zidane take off some of his most important players with that Champions League final in mind?
It feels like Real Madrid are now coasting to full time in this game. They might fel the urge to put on the after burners and really force the issue, but they have a CL final to preserve themselves for.
So as things stand, it doesn't even matter what this result is, Real Madrid are champions. Quite a remarkable result unfolding at Camp Nou. Eibar are 2-0 up against Barcelona!
Some more news from Camp Nou...
- OffKekoMálaga CF
- OnChory CastroMálaga CF
Malaga make their first chance of the match and it's Castro who comes on to replace Keko.
- Yellow cardJonyMálaga CF
The Malaga players are still protesting the second goal. Kameni was also booked.
GOD SAVE! Not for the first time, Navas makes a good save to deny Malaga. This time it was Camacho who headed towards goal, but he was kept out by the Costa Rican keeper.
Isco should have done better with that. Real Madrid had committed four players forward on the counter attack, but the pass into the middle from the playmaker was a tame one.
So is this game now beyond Malaga? They feel Benzema was offside when he converted from close range, but replays show their protests to be incorrect. He was onside.
- GoalKarim BenzemaReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Malaga 0 Real Madrid 2 (55 mins - Karim Benzema). There's the second goal and that could be the biggest goal of the season! Kameni made the save to deny Ramos' initial attempt, but Benzema was on hand to finish from close range.
Hernandez needed to make that interception! Isco won the ball and looked to thread Benzema in behind, but the Malaga defender cut it out to stop him reaching the goal.
Of course, it's not just this game that Ronaldo needs to be concerned about, but the Champions League final against Juventus as well. Real Madrid will need their star player.
Ronaldo is back on his feet and is walking off the pitch to receive some treatment. It was a strong challenge from Ricca, but a fair one. The Portuguese is moving gingerly. Concerning.
IS RONALDO HURT? The Real Madrid number seven has hit the ground after a tackle and looks to be in a lot of pain. This is a real worry. He's not getting up. Might he have to come off?
SHOT FROM RECIO! The Malaga player got around Ramos with ease and sent a shot away on goal, but Navas got down easily to make the save and keep Real Madrid ahead.
Having said that, Real Madrid seem to be quite content with just allowing Malaga to pressure them. They are inviting them forward, sitting back and plugging the gaps in defence.
There were no changes from Zidane at the break, which is unsurprising given that Real Madrid are winning. But he will be wary that Malaga have improved since the opening goal.
Some first half numbers and figures...
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Real Madrid have a 1-0 lead over Malaga.
What did you make of the first half at La Rosaleda? Can Malaga still cause an upset here to hand the title to Barcelona? Or will Real Madrid stretch their lead? Tweet me!
HALF TIME: Malaga 0-1 Real Madrid. Ronaldo's goal is the difference between the two teams at the break, but the home side have had their chances. They are creating problems.
With the exception of the first few minutes, you could make the case that Malaga have in fact been the better side. Real Madrid have taken their chances, though. They have been clinical.
Ronaldo flicks through a pass for Benzema, but the French striker is offside and the flag is raised before he can get a shot away on goal. That was the first thing Ronaldo has done in a while.
Now Real Madrid are taking the chance to knock a few passes around the defence and midfield, calming things down. They'll just want to get to the half time break with a lead.
It's all Malaga at the moment. Real Madrid are having to dig deep before the half time break. Sandro has been a real threat. You can see him scoring before this game is out.
GETTING CLOSER! The cross was slung into the Real Madrid box from the left wing, with Keko climbing highest, but his header loops over Navas' goal. That was close to an equaliser!
Malaga are certainly on top at the moment. They are pegging Real Madrid back and there is a sense that the away side are counting down the minutes until the half time break.
JUST WIDE OF THE POST! That was very close to being an equaliser for Malaga, with Keko flicking on a shot from Sandro. Navas wasn't anywhere near it, but it flashed wide of the target.
There's another double save from Kameni! First he saves from Kroos, then he follows up at the feet of Benzema, who was racing in to get on the end of the rebound. No such luck.
Kameni is the epitome of a big game player and he is already pulling off a number of saves to deny Real Madrid here. A second goal from Real Madrid would have been massive.
BRILLIANT SAVE! How did that stay out? Benzema's low cross found Ronaldo, who cut inside and hit a left footed strike towards goal, but Kameni pulled off an astounding stop to deny him.
It's worth keeping in mind that Barcelona are still losing at home to Eibar at the moment. If that result was to stay that way it wouldn't matter what happened in this game. Real would be champions.
The tempo has been sucked from this match. That will suit Real Madrid, but it's strange to watch such an important game played like this. Are Malaga already on their summer holidays?
Real Madrid need to be careful that they don't allow Malaga to have too many shots on goal. At the moment, the home side are enjoying some possession on the edge of the box.
This has turned into a strange match since the opening goal. Real Madrid were in control, but there's a certain lethargy to the way they have played in the last 10/15 minutes.
Well over the bar! Ronaldo had his initial shot charged down, eventually playing the ball to Kroos on the edge of the box, but he blasts his effort well over the target. He was leading back.
Ramos heads over the bar after some good work from Modric down the right side of the pitch. The centre back has been a valuable source of goals for Real Madrid this season.
Marcelo is providing an outlet down the left side as he tends to do for Real Madrid. He's the one teasing the crosses into the penalty area. He's the one pegging Malaga back right now.
Navas put his body on the line for the cause there, but there is still speculation that David De Gea will be signed from Manchester United to replace him at Real Madrid this summer.
Navas is going to need a minute here to get back to his feet. He clattered into the near post as he made the save from that Sandro freekick. That was an excellent save from the Costa Rican.
WHAT A SAVE! Sandro struck an exceptional freekick from about 25 yards towards goal, but Navas was equal to it, throwing himself across goal to make the save to keep Malaga out.
Barcelona are still trailing at home to Eibar. Alba just had a goal ruled out of offside, so the hosts are pressing hard for an equaliser. They need to win to stand any real chance of winning the title.
Of course, Real Madrid still have a Champions League final against Juventus to look forward to. Barcelona still have the Copa del Rey final, so this isn't the end of the season for either of them.
For the first time in the match Real Madrid look a little flustered in their own half, but Varane does well to head clear a Keko cross into the box. The home side are making a go of it.
FLASHES ACROSS GOAL! That was a tight angle for Benzema, but his strike on the bounce flashes across the face of goal, taking a deflection off the thigh of an opposition defender.
SANDRO SHOT! The former Barcelona man gets away and drives into the Real Madrid penalty area, but Navas makes the save at the near post to keep Real Madrid a goal to the good.
Malaga actually came into this game in exceptional home form, winning their last four games at La Rosaleda. But so far, Real Madrid are containing them reasonably well.
That early has settled the nerves of the Real Madrid players. This could have been a difficult match for them, but they look in complete control of things at the moment.
Some unexpected news from the Camp Nou...
Benzema probably should have done better with that at the back post. The ball was chipped to him by Isco, but he couldn't get his first touch right and Camacho made the clearance.
Bale has made the journey to Malaga for this one, but the Welsh winger is still recovering from injury. At the moment, thought, he wouldn't get in the lineup ahead of Isco.
Real Madrid have started this game well. They are in control and now don't have to chase anything. They can take their time and be patient. Malaga will have to come out and play.
It was Isco who made the pass through to Ronaldo for the opening goal. He has become a key player in this Real Madrid team in recent weeks. AS even claimed this will be 'Isco's Title.'
That's Ronaldo's 40th goal of the season, and that means he has 14 goals in his last nine games. He has come good at the most important part of the season. He's dragging them over the line.
- GoalCristiano RonaldoReal Madrid
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Malaga 0 Real Madrid 1 (2 mins - Cristiano Ronaldo). What a start for Real Madrid! They have the lead after just a couple of minutes! Ronaldo was released in behind by Isco, rounds Kameni in the Malaga goal and finishes into the empty net.
Okay, so Real Madrid need a point to win the league championship. They should be able to do that with ease, but Malaga have the capacity to cause an upset. Will they put up a fight?
- 1st Half
The first half is under way! It's Malaga against Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have led La Liga for the majority of the season, with Barcelona making more of a fight of it in recent weeks. But they have been the best team and so it would be fitting should they be crowned champions tonight.
Of course, the title could still end up at Camp Nou, with Barcelona up against Eibar. If they were to win and Real Madrid were to lose to Malaga, the championship would be theirs again.
The task for Real Madrid is simple - they need a point to finish ahead of Barcelona and win the Spanish Liga title for the first time since the 2011/12 season. They are almost there!
Zidane has, unsurprisingly, fielded his strongest side. Benzema and Ronaldo will play up front with Isco supporting them in the playmaker role. Ramos and Varane start as the CBs.
TEAM NEWS: Malaga - Kameni, Torres, Hernandez, Mikel, Ricca, Camacho, Keko, Recio, Fornals, Jony, Sandro. /// Real Madrid - Navas, Danilo, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Isco, Ronaldo, Benzema.
