Barcelona achieved the feat of 16 successive wins in the 2010-11 season when they went on to win La Liga and the Champions League.
It was a haul equalled by Zinedine Zidane's side on Sunday evening with a 2-0 win at Espanyol, but they will have to content themselves with a share of the record alongside Pep Guardiola's team of five years ago.
"We were the much better side in the second half but you can't always win every game in the last minute," Zidane told a news conference on Wednesday.
"It's difficult, it was a tough game and we gave a lot but sometimes these results happen. It happened today but it's not going to change how we want to play."
Sergio Ramos handled in the box to concede a penalty on 44 minutes and Bruno Soriano stepped up to slot the ball down the middle for a shock 1-0 lead.
Madrid equalised three minutes after half-time when Ramos arrived to head into the net from a James Rodríguez cross, but they could not find a winning goal despite being camped in the visiting side's half.
Madrid’s 13 goals in Liga have been scored by 11 different players with Ramos joining Bale on two goals this season.
