There were questions asked over the selection of Alcacer for this game this evening, but he more than justified his place, scoring Barcelona's two goals in a 2-1 win. Will this be the game that launches his career at Camp Nou? The result means Barca have an 11 point lead over Real Madrid.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Barcelona 1-0 Sevilla
- Yellow cardLionel MessiFC Barcelona
Messi gets the first yellow card of the match in stoppage time. That was a late challenge.
In theory, Mascherano will give Barcelona some more steel in the centre of the pitch, making it more difficult for Sevilla to break them down in the final moments of this game.
Four minutes of stoppage time seems rather generous. But that gives Sevilla some time to find an equaliser. Although it's not really in the nature of Barcelona to sit back and invite pressure.
Four minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
- OffIvan RakiticFC Barcelona
- OnJavier MascheranoFC Barcelona
It's Rakitic who is coming off for Barcelona and he will be replaced by Mascherano.
Paulinho has given Barcelona something different since coming on. That's what the Brazilian does. He certainly isn't your typical Barca player, but that's what makes him so good.
Barcelona are just looking to slow down the pace of this game. Sevilla are pressing high on them, but the Catalans are composed enough to pass it around them, relieving the pressure.
Sevilla have the ball and are camped on the edge of the Barcelona penalty are. Everyone is back for the Catalans, including Deulofeu, who wins the ball this time.
Barcelona need to keep their concentration here. We've already seen how dangerous Sevilla can be on the counter attack. It's not beyond the visitors to find a second equaliser.
Rakitic has now gone off the pitch to receive some treatment. The Croatian has been in good form this evening. Thankfully for Barcelona, it looks like he will be back on very soon.
PENALTY CLAIM! Rakitic makes a stupdendous run from one penalty area to the other, but he is pushed off the ball just as is about to pull the trigger. Penalty claims are waved away.
One of the biggest surprises of the season so far has been the impact Paulinho has made at Barcelona. The Brazilian has made a difference since coming on for Iniesta tonight.
Alba fouls Navas. That probably should have been a yellow card for the Barcelona left back, but the referee decides to keep his cards in his pocket. There hasn't been a booking yet.
What has happened to Suarez? He looks so far off the pace it's unbelievable. How has one of the best players in the world managed to fall so low? He is a shadow of his former self.
Apologies, some technical problems on our end. If you want to know the ins and outs, things have just got really slow. But we'll stick with it. You've not missed too much of the game.
- OffSimon KjærSevilla FC
- OnJohannes GeisSevilla FC
A change for Sevilla. Kjaer has been taken off for the away side.
That goal came at just the right time for Barcelona. Sevilla had come back into the game, equalising and pressing for a second, but they got their noses ahead before it became a real problem.
MESSI IS DENIED! The Argentine's pass through is initially intercepted, but the ball ends up at his feet again. He takes aim from the edge of the box, but Soria makes the stop.
So with that double, Alcacer now has more La Liga goals thn Ronaldo so far this season. The Barcelona striker is finally showing his worth for Barcelona. Finally!
That's rather harsh on Alcacer. He has struggled for confience ever since he joined Barcelona. So what does Valverde do when he finally finds it, scoring twice? Sub him off.
- OffPaco AlcácerFC Barcelona
- OnGerard DeulofeuFC Barcelona
Well, that's a bit cruel from Valverde. Alcacer has just put Barcelona back in front, but he's been pulled off.
- GoalPaco AlcácerFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 2 (65 mins - Paco Alcacer) Sevilla 1. He's got another one! Alcacer scored the opener and he has put Barcelona back in front! The striker got to the near post and prods home a Rakitic cross. Good finish. Good movement.
OFF THE CROSSBAR! That was very nearly an instant reply from Barcelona, with Pique taking aim from 18 yards out. But his shot smashes off the crossbar and goes behind.
- OffPablo SarabiaSevilla FC
- OnNolitoSevilla FC
And a change from Sevilla as well, with Nolito coming on for the away side, who are in the ascendency.
- OffAndrés IniestaFC Barcelona
- OnPaulinhoFC Barcelona
An immediate reaction from Valverde, who takes off Iniesta and throws on Paulinho.
- GoalGuido PizarroSevilla FC
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 Sevilla 1 (60 mins - Guido Pizarro). There's the goal Sevilla had been pushing hard for at the start of the season half! Pizarro got on the end of a corner kick delivery and glanced a header home. We're back on level terms!
CHANCE FOR SEVILLA! Once again, Sevilla catch out Barcelona on the counter attack, with Muriel playing the ball to Sarabia, but Semedo comes across to make the challenge and block the shot.
I don't think this is part of the plan for Barcelona. It's like they intended to invite this pressure on top of themselves at the start of the season half. Valverde doesn't look pleased.
This is so much better from Sevilla. They are the ones dictating possession. They are the ones pressing on the edge of the opposition penalty area. Is there an equaliser coming?
The danger for Sevilla is that the more that they come out of their shell as they press for an equaliser, the more space in behind they leave for Barcelona and their attackers to exploit.
Barcelona are having to do some defending at the start of the second half. I just wonder if the Catalans might come to rue all those missed opportunities over the opening 45 minutes.
This is much more promising from Sevilla, but when the time comes for Sarabia to make that pass into the final third, he makes the wrong decision. That's disappointing for the away side.
This half already looks like being competitive. Sevilla have grown into the contest and are now pressing much higher on the home side. Barca's 1-0 is starting to look fragile.
MURIEL OVER THE BAR! That's the second time that Barcelona have allowed the Sevilla attacker the opportunity of a shot from inside the box, but he puts his effort over the bar.
Barcelona were well on top in the first half, but Sevilla improved as the half progressed. The away side retain some threat on the counter attack. That's where they could do some damage.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way at Camp Nou! Barcelona hav a 1-0 lead.
What did you make of the first half? Could Alcacer nail down that position on the right side of the attacking frontline? Can Sevilla mount a fightback? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Barcelona 1-0 Sevilla. Alcacer's goal is the difference between the sides at the interval, but the Catalans have been far superior. An impressive first half display from Barca.
ALMOST! That was almost the perfect pass from Messi to Alcacer. It was made through the eye of a needle, but Alcacer just couldn't gather it. Had he done so, it would have surely been a goal.
It's just not happening for Suarez at the moment. The former Liverpool striker is short of the pace and can't find his finishing touch. It was believed it might have been dropped for this game.
N'Zonzi is the key to this game for Sevilla. If he can get a grip of things in the centre of the pitch, the away side will stand a chance. Of course, N'Zonzi was linked to Barca last season.
There have been some moments of encouragement from Sevilla in the last 15 minutes or so. They seem to be making some progress down the right wing, where Alba is having a tough time of it.
All of a sudden, Barcelona have taken it upon themselves to slow the tempo of the game down. They are still in control of the ball, but they might be seeing this out before the break.
The omens aren't good for Sevilla. Barcelona haven't lost in 39 games when they took the lead first. It's even worse if they get to half time leading. It's 100 games since they lost having been ahead at the break.
Semedo is playing in the right back role for Barcelona this evening. He has shown glimpses of what he can do since signing in the summer, but has yet to really nail down his place.
Of course, this was expected to be one of the toughest tests Barcelona would face this season, although Sevilla haven't been so strong on the road over the early part of the campaign.
The pace and tempo of Barcelona's play this evening has been astonishing. Sevilla have had no choice but to sit deep and absorb as much of it as possible. The hosts are everywhere.
This has been better from Sevila in the last few minutes, but that's only because they have managed to venture into the opposition half once or twice. It was a low bar.
Suarez goes down after a challenge by Escudero, but that was a clean challenge by the Sevilla player. Suarez wasn't caught in any way. That was a clear attempt to con the referee.
The potential is there for Sevilla to catch out Barcelona on the counter attack, but they have so far lacked the quality to cause the Catalans problems. Barca need to be careful.
ACROSS THE FACE OF GOAL! Rakitic does really well to play a ball right across the face of goal on the volley, but Alcacer didn't make contact as he attempted to backheel it goalwards.
Iniesta has been excellent so far this evening. Part of that is down to the fact Sevilla are giving him so much space around the edge of the box. He is being given so much freedom.
That goal had been coming for quite some time. Barcelona have been well on top at the start of this match. They probably should have had two or three before that opener from Alcacer.
There were a lot of questions over Alcacer's selection in this team before kick off, but he has just justified it with a goal. He has always been a finisher. That has never left the striker.
- GoalPaco AlcácerFC Barcelona
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Barcelona 1 (22 mins - Paco Alcacer) Sevilla 0. Well what do you know? Alcacer has opened the scoring for Barcelona! The touch back from Escudero was poor, with the striker latching on to it, sliding home a finish underneath Soria.
There seems to be sooooo much space for Barcelona to exploit on the edge of the Sevilla penalty area. The away side are inviting pressure right on top of themselves.
WORTH A SHOT! Sevilla's midfielders backed off and backed off until Iniesta found himself on the edge of the penalty area. The playmaker pinged his shot wide of the target, though.
Of course, Real Madrid play tomorrow, meaning that Barcelona can go ELEVEN points clear of their rivals and the champions at the top of the Liga table with a victory this evening.
There's a real zip to the way Barcelona are playing this evening. It's not just that they are controlling the ball, they are also pinging the passes around the final third, creating chances.
CHANCE FOR MURIEL! Umtiti gives the ball away inside his own half, allowing Muriel the chance to run through on goal, but he couldn't get the angle right on his shot and he drags his effort wide.
The Camp Nou has become a political arena for years now, but the stakes have been raised in recent weeks due to the situation in Catalonia and Spain. Tonight is no different.
Indeed, Alcacer is playing on the right side of the Barcelona frontline, which is strange to see. Is Valverde really saying that he is better in that position than someone like Denis?
For literally the first time in the match, Sevilla have the chance to string some passes together, but the high press from Barcelona is too much for them and they lose it once again.
Messi looks in the mood tonight. He wasn't in the best of form against Olympiacos during the week, as Barcelona drew 0-0, but Sevilla are struggling to keep hold of him early on.
This has been a dominant start from Barcelona. They have had four good chances on goal and Sevilla can hardly get on the ball. The only player of theirs I have mentioned is Soria.
SUAREZ SHOULD HAVE SCORED! The former Liverpool striker beats the offside trap to get on the end of a long ball, but he couldn't quite lob Soria in the Sevilla goal. An in form Suarez would have scored that.
OFF THE LINE! Now Busquets comes close to opening the scoring, sending a shot towards goal following a cut back from Messi, but a defender was back on the line to make the clearance.
SORIA SAVES FROM MESSI! First, the Argentine hits the wall with a freekick. Secondly, he dribbles past three players before shooting from a tight angle. Soria made the save, though.
Rather unusually, Alcacer is being used on the right side of the attack rather than in his more familiar central position. Valverde is trying something different here against Sevilla.
This is a strong Barcelona team, but the surprise inclusion in their side is Alcacer. This is the first start the striker has been handed in La Liga since the opening day of the season.
