But the Brazilian centre back is determined to put the victory to one side and help his club qualify for a second consecutive Champions League campaign.

“It is a little difficult to come back to work after something like that but the club's objective hasn't changed,” Henrique told the Bordeaux website. “We want to qualify for the Champions League."

Bordeaux finished second behind last season's runaway champions Lyon but had a difficult start to the season, finding it tough to juggle European and domestic commitments and languishing in the bottom half of the table for the early part of the campaign. But they fought back with some excellent performances and now lie fifth.

“At Auxerre (on Saturday) the challenge will be hard to handle but we have to attempt to earn the three points," he continued. "We will need to be even more focused than usual.

“That is crucial for us.”
