PSG boss Laurent Blanc plays down Thierry Henry link

Arsenal legend Henry announced on Monday that he would leave MLS side New York Red Bulls after four-and-a-half years, and speculation has since linked the Frenchman with a move to the Emirates Stadium or to PSG on a short-term deal.

However, former France coach Blanc has admitted that he has not considered attempting to strike a deal with Henry.

"Could he play six months at PSG like [David] Beckham? I’ve not thought about that," he told reporters.

“He could still play, he loves the game so much. I don’t know if he will retire or not. It wouldn’t surprise me if he continued to play. He’s had a great career and is a great player.”

Whilst it seems that Henry's immediate future is unclear, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that the club legend would certainly return to north London in some capacity in the near future.

“Thierry Henry has come out and what I understand is that he wants to reflect for a while on how he wants to go into his next life,” said Wenger.

“The only thing I would like to say is that I made him start at the age of 17 in Monaco, he is today 37 so he had 20 years of competitive football and that deserves high respect and congratulations, not only on what he achieved but also on his attitude and his exemplary and his focus on football.

“He has the right to reflect and think of what he wants to do now. He is an Arsenal man. It was the best moment certainly of his life and of his career has been experienced here. Certainly one day he will come back here. In what role I don’t know, that’s what he has to think about: what direction he wants to give to his next life.

“He has all the qualities because he is intelligent, committed, he loves the game. He just has to think 'do I want to sacrifice all the rest of my life to be involved in that job?'”
