Sall strikes as St Etienne beat Rennes to boost European hopes

Bayal Sall's 73rd-minute goal was the difference between the sides as St Etienne earned a victory that saw them climb up to fifth in the table.

St Etienne are right in the thick of the hunt for European football, just one point behind fourth-placed Angers and three third-placed behind Nice.

Rennes are also still in the hunt, however: though they are now ninth, they are just two points behind St Etienne in the tightly-packed top half of the Ligue 1 table.
