Mbappe has reportedly been the subject of offers in excess of £100 million from Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City this summer, but until Wednesday had made no public decision on whether to stay at Monaco, the club he helped to the Ligue 1 title last summer.
Respected French newspaper L'Equipe is now reporting that Mbappe has come to a decision, with the 18-year-old deciding that he wants to leave Monaco to further his career.
L'Equipe further adds that Barcelona are showing a strong interest in the most exciting teenage talent in football.
The Catalans will soon have £198m to spend when Neymar exercises his release clause to join Paris Saint-Germain.
L'Equipe reports that "a meeting has already taken place" between Barcelona and representatives of Mbappe.
