Defending champions Ivory Coast are the favourites for the title, boasting a star-studded team consisting of players present in Europe’s elite clubs. Among the big names is Manchester United’s Eric Bailly, who has played an important role in Jose Mourinho’s defence this season. Also in the squad is PSG’s Serge Aurier, former Chelsea star Salomon Kalou and Stoke City’s Wilfried Bony.

Algeria are also like to challenge for the trophy this year, with PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez spearheading a devastating attack that also includes Mahrez’s Leicester team-mate Islam Slimani and Porto star Yacine Brahimi. Nabil Bentaleb, who is on loan at German club FC Schalke from Tottenham Hotspur, is also expected to feature in the squad.

Other players to watch throughout the tournament will be Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been in devastating form for his club, scoring 15 goals in just 13 games. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane, West Ham’s Andre Ayew and Middlesbrough’s Adama Traore will also be ones to watch
