It isn’t what you might expect of the Manchester United captain but Wayne Rooney has joined a substantial list of Old Trafford stars in sending his son to play for rivals Manchester City.

The Daily Mail reports that Kai Rooney, 7, has been attending training sessions at the City Football Academy, having previously turned out for United’s development team.
The paper reports on Friday morning:
In recent weeks, Sportsmail understands Rooney mingled happily with the other parents of the City Under 7s squad, some of whom were surprised to see the United forward at their rivals’ headquarters. Premier League clubs cannot officially sign players until the age of nine and it is common for youngsters to play for a number of academies before choosing a team.
Still, it is rather surprising to hear the United captain is taking his son to City for training sessions - even if Rooney is far from the first player to do this.
Robin van Persie and Darren Fletcher both had their sons at the City academy during their time as United players, while treble-winner Phil Neville also allowed his kid to play for United’s biggest rivals.
