Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho: Football's Einsteins have tried to delete my career

Mourinho’s tenure began well enough, with a Community Shield triumph over Leicester being quickly followed by a hat-trick of league wins to start the season.

But a home defeat to likely title rivals Manchester City on September 10 preceded disappointing performances and losses to Feyenoord in the Europa League and Watford in the Premier League prompted a host of negative headlines about the club.

Mourinho, however, was happy with Wednesday night's response in the EFL Cup win over Northampton, and believes the level of the criticism of his team has been unnecessary, yet reflective of the modern game.

"We had a bad week,” Mourinho told MUTV. “I know that the world is full of Einsteins, I know that they tried to delete 16 years of my career, they tried to delete an unbelievable history of Manchester United Football Club and to focus on a bad week with three bad results. But that’s the new football, it’s full of Einsteins."

"We have three home matches now in a row and it is always good to be at home. I can understand clearly the disappointment. If the fans have been disappointed with the last week, I understand completely, but I am sure they will be behind the team like they always are.”
