McCoist unsure of AGM attendance

The shareholder summit at Ibrox is expected to be a stormy affair as the club's unpopular directors are grilled by angry fans.

But McCoist - who is now working his 12-month notice period after handing in his resignation - admits he still does not know if he will show up.

The 52-year-old, who watched his side beat Livingston 2-0 at Ibrox in their first outing since it was confirmed he was standing down, said: "I will definitely speak to the board in the next 24 hours and see if I am required to go or they want me to go.

"I am not sure I am required to go. I don't know what the legalities of it are.

"If anyone wants me there, I will be there. That goes without saying."

PLC Chairman David Somers, new chief executive Derek Liambias and chairman of football board Sandy Easdale can expect a torrent of questions when they go before the club's shareholders.

Rangers need to find £8.3million if they are to survive beyond April 1 and there remains mystery about what Mike Ashley has got in store for the Glasgow giants.

McCoist has not ruled out facing the music at Monday's AGM.

He said: "Will I stay away unless I'm told to go? No, that is not the case. I will have a chat about it. I don't think this is a massive issue at all.

"I think Walter Smith used to go to some of them. I don't know if he went to them all. I know I went to one last year, but I don't think it is a massive issue.

"If it is a requirement, I will definitely be there. If need be and people want me there, I will be there."

Rangers got back to winning ways after last week's capitulation at Queen of the South.

Fraser Aird rifled home from inside the box after 10 minutes before Simon Mensing sent a header into his own net as he tried to clear one of Aird's crosses with 16 minutes left.

But while the official crowd was announced as 28,053, there appeared to be a lot less inside Ibrox.

Somers was forced to admit the club had inflated the attendance figure for their last home match against Cowdenbeath by almost 9,000 but McCoist said he could understand why many fans were staying away.

He said: "I have felt unbelievably sorry for the fans over the last three years, to be honest.

"I am not sure attendances are a worry. Obviously, when we are playing at home, I would far rather the team was being supported by 50,000 rather than 15,000, 20,000 or 25,000. That goes without saying.

"However, I do understand, 100 per cent, the vast majority of fans' feelings over the last three years.

"Will we get those fans back? Yes. In the short term? I don't know about that."

Livi were led by caretaker boss Mark Burchill after the club sacked John McGlynn on Tuesday.

However, the former Celtic striker does not know how long the cash-strapped Almondavle outfit will let him keep the job, saying: "I've been given the job until the end of the season and the club can't look any further than that because of the five-point deduction.

"But I'm here for the long-term at Livingston and I've told the players that. I believe with that kind of determination and bravery, we'll stay in this league."
