West Brom assistant head coach Gary Megson has warned the Baggies' struggling stars they must shape up.
The former Bolton boss is in temporary charge at Albion after the club sacked Tony Pulis on Monday.
Alan Pardew continues to be strongly linked with the hotseat and ex-Brighton boss Oscar Garcia is also keen with the Baggies a point above the relegation zone after failing to win their last 10 games.
And with the club near the bottom Megson has reminded the players they need to raise their game.
He said: "There are some good players in there not playing too well at the moment. They have to accept that. There is no point going on about how before I arrived they were doing it all the time.
"People are talking about what has gone on in the past and what's going to go on in the future. The important thing is here and now.
"We have players who I know can certainly play better, other people know they can play better, but more importantly they know they can play better.
"They have to step up. They will be given the opportunity and they have to start playing like we know they can play.
"I think we have some good players, Tony himself has said we have good players, but in the position we are in at the moment, being perfectly blunt, we have some very good players not playing good at the moment. We have to get out of that quickly."
Megson could be in charge for Saturday's trip to Tottenham at Wembley but does not want to remain at the club as an assistant under a new manager and knows Albion must improve to stay out of trouble.
"If we keep going how we performed on Saturday (a 4-0 defeat to Chelsea) we are going to struggle," he said.
"Results aren't great but we have just played Man City and Chelsea. We have to try and hold it together and to accept the position we are in."
