The Terriers had lost their previous two first-team friendlies - at Grimsby and Rochdale - and Powell was pleased with his players' response against the Spanish top-flight side.
"We've needed that, so I have to be pleased," Powell told the club's official website.
"It was a really good response to Rochdale, which wasn't like us. We had a solidity about us all night and, although there were one or two rough edges to smooth, we used the ball well too."
Summer signings Jason Davidson and Kyle Dempsey both caught the eye at the John Smith's Stadium, while James Vaughan made his first pre-season appearance.
"It was a good evening all round and gave our fans the chance to see the new players," Powell added.
"It is also good for the five new lads to get over the first hurdle of playing at home before the real stuff starts."
