United lining up Ramos, De Gea swap - Manchester United want Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid want David De Gea. So will they just swap the two? The Independent believe United are pushing for just that, knowing that they are likely to lose De Gea and seeing the unhappy Ramos as a clear upgrade in central defence. Real Madrid value Ramos at £46.5 million so United would have to kick in cash, as well as De Gea, to do a deal. But such is United's desire for a world-class defender, they are seriously considering the swap deal.
Paper Round's view - Ramos is not happy that Real Madrid haven't extended his contract so a departure is on the table. If you're going to leave the Bernabeu while still one of the better players around, you have to go to another giant club, and United fit the bill. Convincing United that he is worth £46.5m might be an obstacle and player swaps are always very difficult, but Ramos and De Gea switching clubs does make sense in a vacuum.
City considering £50m bid for Sterling - Raheem Sterling is back from a holiday in Ibiza and could return to a £50m bid from Manchester City for his services. The Mail claim that City are considering submitting a new bid for Sterling after having their £40m bid rejected by Liverpool. If City do go in for another £10m, it would be their final bid for the player.
Paper Round's view - Liverpool look to be playing the Sterling transfer just right. They reportedly wanted £50m for him and, by taking a strong stand on it, they just might get it. City have clearly made Sterling a priority and, between the relaxed Financial Fair Play rules and the club's need to add homegrown players, they will probably toss in the next £10m to get their man.

Sunderland interested in Townsend - Andros Townsend has become a target for Sunderland, according to The Newcastle Chronicle. Dick Advocaat wants to add a winger with pace and has set his sights on Townsend. The England international started just 10 times for Spurs last year so there is some speculation that he could leave the club, but Aston Villa, Swansea and Newcastle will join Sunderland in the chase for the 23-year-old.
Paper Round's view - Townsend wasn't a focus under Mauricio Pochettino last season, but Spurs have a lot of uncertainty on the wing so it's not clear if he has a place to at the club next season, let alone whether that's a role Townsend would be happy with. He would definitely be a good addition to Sunderland, though. Not only is he a quality player and a winger like Sunderland need, but he's capable of playing on both wings so that would give Advocaat options.

Southampton to break record for Alderweireld - Southampton are going to do everything they can to keep Toby Alderweireld. The Mirror understand that the Saints are prepared to break their transfer record to get Alderweireld, meaning they will pay more than the £15m they shelled out to land Dani Osvaldo. The defender spent last season on loan with the Saints and played excellently, spurring the club's desire to retain him.
Paper Round's view - After the way Alderweireld played last season, Southampton have to do whatever they can to sign him permanently. The defender is an in-demand player so he won't come cheap and while over £15m is a lot to spend, the Saints can afford it. They have all that extra TV money coming in and while they probably couldn't sign any other big money players this summer in addition to Alderweireld, prioritising an excellent central player who already proved himself at the club is wise.

West Ham join race for Dembele - Mousa Dembele looks to be on the way out of Tottenham and The Sun believe that West Ham are ready to challenge Chelsea for the midfielder. Dembele is out of favour at Spurs and the Blues think he can be a nice addition at £12m, but Slaven Bilic also liked the Belgian. He thinks that Dembele would improve the team and wants to make a move for the midfielder.
Paper Round's view - Dembele would be an odd fit at Chelsea. They'd obviously be a big step up in terms of the size of the club, but he wouldn't play a lot and his questionable defensive work wouldn't impress Jose Mourinho. But West Ham could be an excellent landing spot, giving them a quality midfielder, which they definitely need - and at £12m it's a fair deal.
