West Ham have secured the signing of Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna, according to reports in Italy.
Persistent speculation has seen West Ham linked with the Italian international in recent weeks, with Everton reportedly also interested in acquiring the 27-year-old’s signature.
The imposing centre-half, who is also capable of playing at left-back, joined Juventus from boyhood club Torino in 2013 and has since made 41 appearances for the Serie A champions.
According to reports in Italy, the defender has opted to join West Ham over Everton and a €12 million fee, plus €1m in add-ons, has been agreed between Juventus and the Hammers.
West Ham co-chairman David Gold attempted to get ahead of the Italian media outlets this morning by announcing the deal on Twitter, though the 78-year-old’s post was a total disaster.
Gold’s pre-8am message was to inform the West Ham fans that the club had signed 23-year-old midfielder Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria, but used a picture of Ogbonna in the post.
Obiang actually signed for the East London club last month.
