West Bromwich Albion have bolstered their defensive ranks by signing centre half Jonny Evans from Manchester United on a four-year deal.
"This is a great signing for the club," manager Tony Pulis told Albion's official website (www.wba.co.uk) on Saturday.
"Jonny brings a lot of experience and will be a big player for us. He's a player I've been watching for some time."
The fee was undisclosed but media reports put it at £8 million.
Northern Ireland international Evans, 27, made his United debut in 2007 and played almost 200 games for the club, picking up three Premier League winners' medals.
United hoped the one-club man would develop into a suitable replacement for long-time defensive stalwarts Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who both left in 2014, but he struggled with injuries last season and his form suffered.
West Brom are 14th in the Premier League with four points from their opening four fixtures.
OUR VIEW
Considering the money that is currently bandied around the Premier League, £8 million for a player of Evans’ experience must surely be filed under a decent bit of business for West Brom. Of course, true value will be dictated by how Evans performs for the Baggies. However, he has always been solid if not spectacular for United and has proven Premier League credentials.
With Tyler Blackett loaned to Celtic and Evans sold, the question must be asked: are United about to sign that ball-playing centre half that they have been rumoured to be in for?
