With Arsenal expected to complete the £35m signing of Germany international Shkodran Mustafi shortly, Chambers has been given a chance to play more regular football.
The 21-year-old, who signed from Southampton two years ago in a deal worth £16 million, has also been supplanted in Arsene Wenger's plans by summer signing Rob Holding.
Chambers has become a centre-back for Arsenal but Middlesbrough describe him as a "versatile right-back", hinting at the role they have earmarked for him at The Riverside.
“I’m really pleased,” Boro boss Aitor Karanka said. “It’s a position where we’ve been working towards bringing the right player in.

“We haven’t been in a hurry because Calum was the player we were waiting for, and he’s going to help us a lot.
“I’d like to say thank you to him because we know he had another offer, but he wanted to come here. That’s important and we’re looking forward to working with him.”
