Summer signing Victor Wanyama found himself in the right place at the right time to give Spurs their first three points of the season, with a win over Crystal Palace.
The Kenyan international got on to the end of a Harry Kane header from a corner with only eight minutes to go, heading past Wayne Hennessey at close range. The home side had the better of the chances, with another of the new signings Vincent Janssen unable to capitalise on a one-on-one opportunity deep into the second half.
Pardew's men had a few half-chances throughout but lacked the finishing touch required as Yohan Cabaye's wayward effort from 12 yards ultimately showed.
In a game which didn't lack for feisty challenges with no fewer than six yellow cards, Spurs edged the possession and most importantly took one of their chances which now takes their recent record against the Eagles to five wins from seven games.

Palace have now lost both of their opening games this season and with Connor Wickham only having one meaningful effort on goal which came in the dying minutes, the signing of Christian Benteke will come as a relief.

TALKING POINT

Benteke's arrival much needed? With only two attempts on target, Palace look to be struggling quite badly in forward areas with the lone wolf Wickham failing to make an impact despite administering his physical presence at times on the Tottenham defence.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Hotspur): With no obvious standout in what was a tightly knit game, the two rocks at the heart of the Spurs defence reigned supreme once again. The Belgian international went close to heading his side in front in the first period, but from then on put in a typical polished display to stem any threat from the likes of Townsend, Zaha and Wickham.
